Care and Maintenance Guide

Every Marlot Baus table is finished with a nine-layer microcement surface system engineered for daily use. With proper care, your table will maintain its appearance and structural integrity for years. This guide covers cleaning, stain removal, and warranty information.

The Surface System

Our microcement surface is composed of nine layers applied in sequence over a sustainable low-density MDF core:

1. Primer — bonds the microcement to the MDF core
2. Base microcement — creates the primary surface texture and colour
3. Fine-finish microcement (3 layers) — builds depth, smoothness, and colour consistency
4. Waterproof sealer (4 coats) — reinforced with a flexible mesh, this transparent top layer protects against water, stains, and daily wear

Daily Cleaning

For everyday cleaning, use warm water with a mild soap. Wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth and dry with a clean cloth. No specialised or proprietary cleaning products are required for normal maintenance.

What to Avoid

• Hot objects: Never place hot pots, pans, or dishes directly on the surface. Always use trivets or heat-resistant mats.
• Sharp objects: Do not cut or chop directly on the table. Always use a cutting board.
• Acidic liquids: Lemon juice, vinegar, wine, and other acidic substances can degrade the sealer over time. If a spill occurs, wipe it immediately with a damp cloth.
• Abrasive cleaners: Do not use scouring pads, wire sponges, or harsh chemical cleaners (bleach, ammonia, solvents). They can scratch or dull the waterproof sealer.

Stain Resistance

The four coats of waterproof sealer create a highly stain-resistant barrier. Common household substances — coffee, olive oil, tomato sauce, red wine — can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, provided the spill is addressed within a reasonable timeframe.

Wood and Steel Leg Care

Solid wood legs (oak, cherry, walnut, dark oak) should be dusted regularly and kept away from prolonged moisture. Stainless steel legs (satin and mirror finishes) can be cleaned with a soft cloth and standard stainless steel cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads on mirror-finish steel.

3-Year Warranty

Every Marlot Baus table includes a 3-year warranty from the date of delivery, covering:

• Structural integrity of the table
• Surface delamination or separation of the microcement system
• Manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship

The warranty does not cover:

• Normal wear and tear
• Damage from improper use (hot objects, sharp objects, abrasive cleaners, prolonged exposure to acidic substances)
• Unauthorised modifications or repairs to the surface
• Damage during transit after delivery

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I place hot dishes directly on the microcement surface?

No. Always use a trivet or heat-resistant mat. Direct contact with hot objects can damage the waterproof sealer.

Is the surface waterproof?

Yes. The four coats of waterproof sealer reinforced with flexible mesh create a waterproof barrier. Coffee, olive oil, and tomato sauce can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.

How do I clean red wine spills?

Wipe immediately with a damp cloth. The waterproof sealer prevents staining, but prolonged contact should be avoided.

Can I use vinegar or lemon-based cleaners?

No. Acidic substances can degrade the sealer over time. Use warm water with a mild soap only.

What does the warranty cover?

The 3-year warranty covers structural integrity, surface delamination, and manufacturing defects. It does not cover normal wear and tear, improper use, or unauthorised modifications.
