How to Choose the Right Table Size
Choosing the right dining table size depends on three factors: how many people you need to seat, the dimensions of your room, and how much space you want around the table for chairs and movement.
Seating Capacity by Size
At Marlot Baus, our tables range from 800mm diameter to 2600mm length. Here is how many people each size comfortably seats:
| Size | Shape | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| 800mm | Round | 2-3 people |
| 900-1000mm | Round | 3-4 people |
| 1100-1200mm | Round / Oval | 4-5 people |
| 1400-1600mm | Oval / Rectangular | 5-6 people |
| 1800-2000mm | Oval / Rectangular | 6-8 people |
| 2200-2600mm | Rectangular | 8-10+ people |
Room Size Guidelines
Leave at least 90cm between the edge of the table and the wall or nearest furniture. This allows chairs to be pulled out comfortably and for people to walk behind seated guests.
- Small dining room (3m x 3m): Round table 100-120cm diameter
- Medium dining room (4m x 4m): Oval or rectangular table 140-180cm
- Large dining room (5m+): Oval or rectangular table 180-260cm
Oval vs Round vs Rectangular
Oval tables are the most versatile — they seat more people than a round table of the same footprint, but have no sharp corners. They work well in both narrow and wide rooms.
Round tables are the most sociable — everyone faces each other. Best for smaller groups and compact spaces.
Rectangular tables maximise seating capacity for a given length. Best for larger families and formal dining.
