La Llagosta, Barcelona
Every Marlot Baus table is made in our workshop in La Llagosta, on the outskirts of Barcelona. The workshop is where design meets craft — where raw MDF panels, microcement, solid wood, and stainless steel are transformed into finished furniture through a multi-stage process that takes weeks per table.
Our Philosophy
We do not hold stock. We do not produce seasonal collections. Every table is built to order, which means:
- Each piece is made to the customer's exact dimensions and finish
- No two tables are identical — the microcement surface has natural tonal variations
- Production time allows for proper curing between layers
- Quality control happens at every stage, not just at the end
The Production Process
- Design and specification: Dimensions, shape, surface finish, leg type, and edge profile are confirmed
- Core preparation: Sustainable low-density MDF is cut and shaped to the specified form
- Primer application: The first layer bonds the microcement system to the MDF core
- Base microcement: The primary surface colour and texture is established
- Fine-finish layers (×3): Three additional layers build depth, smoothness, and colour consistency
- Waterproof sealer (×4 coats): Four coats of sealer, reinforced with flexible mesh, create the waterproof barrier
- Leg fabrication: Solid wood legs are cut, shaped, and finished. Steel legs are fabricated and polished
- Assembly: Legs are attached to the finished tabletop
- Final inspection: Each table is inspected for surface quality, structural integrity, and finish consistency
Materials We Use
- MDF core: Sustainable low-density MDF — stable, uniform, resistant to humidity
- Microcement: Sourced from specialist suppliers, applied in nine layers
- Solid wood legs: Spruce structural legs with oak, cherry, walnut, or dark oak finish
- Steel legs: Stainless steel in satin (brushed) or mirror (polished) finish
- Fromager: Used for creating rounded, organic shapes
Made to Order, Not Mass Produced
Our workshop is not a factory line. Each table is built by hand by skilled craftspeople who take pride in their work. This means production takes time — but the result is a piece of furniture that is uniquely yours, built to last for years.
